Announcing Watchword Gives (A Darn. Our time. To nonprofits.)

Watchword Gives

Today, we’re taking a moment to share some news that makes us excited and proud – the (official) launch of Watchword Gives – our nonprofit support offering.

Quick back story. I went to college at Wake Forest University – twice – undergrad and grad school. One of the things that makes Wake distinctly spectacular is its motto Pro Humanitate. It translates to “for humanity.” During my tenure at the school, I learned to live out that commitment through sweat and skill-based volunteerism. While I had grown up in a family where mission was important, it became ingrained as I grew into adulthood at Wake.

Since graduation, I’ve had the great good fortune to integrate mission and giving into work and life. I’m no different in this than you, probably. That said – the percentage of Americans volunteering (around 25%) and giving charitably (around 67%) is falling drastically. Fortunately, close to 60% of companies either have or are working on CSR initiatives.

The Watchword Brand has always been an organization actively dedicated to giving time, revenues, and skills to support nonprofits. We launched with a Pro Bono program that has been active from the start.

While the branding of Watchword Gives isn’t all that creative, it does encompass the approach. We give… a damn…our skills and time…to nonprofits…because we can…because a great name, positioning, logo, website, campaign, and content can make a real difference to those striving to make our community better.

In 2018, we had the opportunity to offer Watchword Gives support to amazing Atlanta nonprofits including:

  • The Alliance Theatre (messaging, brand campaign)
  • Drake House (messaging, content, website)
  • Waymark Foster (naming, logo, messaging, website, giving campaign)
  • Future Foundation (messaging, website, campaign content)
  • 48in48 (messaging, content, event support, sponsorship, strategy)

We take on one nonprofit at a time, via application (just shoot us a note!) For any nonprofit we take, we provide whatever brand service they need, either at a pro bono or low bono rate. (We understand that some nonprofits have budgets they need to use if they are to get them again.)

It’s an exciting, wonderful thing to have a team willing to give of their time to live out Pro Humanitate. It’s a joy to meet and work with individuals and organizations committed entirely to making the community better. It’s good for the soul to collaborate with other people in our community serving on boards. Through Watchword Gives, we are planting a flag in the sand as a force for good. If you want to join us or apply to receive support, shoot a note to hello@watchwordbrand.com.
